TrueEquity considers itself a part of larger progressive movement to dismantle structural inequality.

We help community-serving organizations become more effective by adopting strong, intersectional approaches that reconnect race, class, AND gender—as well as factors like sex, ethnicity, disability, immigration status, and sexual orientation/gender identity.

TrueEquity remains committed to anti-racist positions, policies and practices – including recruiting diverse directors and prioritizing vendors who practice anti-racist and anti-sexist policies.

TrueEquity is committed to focusing its energies on low-income communities of color, and we avoid conceptualizing them as simply "at-risk" but also as "disinvested, " i.e., the result of intentional deprivation of economic resources over time by social institutions.

Finally, TrueEquity is sensitive to avoiding adding to the “Crisis Discourse” around communities of color and seek to balance that by holding up the immense resources, energy, and resilience they bring to the challenges they face in a society still learning that #BlackLivesMatter.

Equity is a journey, not a destination; one that challenges each of us to continue moving forward each day. We have developed an Organizational Gender Self-Assessment tool to help equitable organizations think through their own practices, norms, and assumptions. We hope this helps you think through your own assumptions along this journey in a more structured way.
